Barnes and Noble Book Fair – December 7th
Join us Friday, December 7th from 4-8 pm for a magical evening at the Barnes and Noble store on Colorado Blvd. Wear your favorite jammies, grab a cup of cocoa and get cozy for the first reading of The Polar Express at 4:30 pm by Mrs. Gerken for Pre-school-5th grade. There will also be singing by our pre-schoolers! A second reading will take place for 6th-8th grade at 7 pm.
Be sure to purchase Crusader Cards at the SVDP table to help raise even more money. SVdP will earn 10% back from ALL purchases made. If you are unable to attend but are interested in purchasing presents, you can purchase online and in the store for 5 days following the event. Simply enter the code 12453940 on the payment page and click Apply Bookfair ID or present the voucher when at the store.
Also, one lucky winner for both Pre-school – 5th grade and 6th-8th grade will be taking home a custom SVdP basket filled with goodies from Barnes & Noble, Starbucks and SVdP spirit wear. You must be present to enter the raffle and you have a second opportunity to enter when you make a Barnes & Noble purchase. Students-made bookmarks will also be available at the event.
Teacher and Staff Christmas Fund
The opportunity to give to this Fund is extended until Wednesday, December 12th. You can bring a check to the front office by 3:00pm or give online at https://osvonlinegiving.com/1794/DirectDonate/66832 . The Text to Give Code is CHRISTMASFUND. All donations given by Wednesday, December 12th will pass fully to our teachers and staff, and the school will pay the payroll taxes involved so that your donation fully benefits our teachers and staff. This fund was established by the parents in our community who, like us, believe that it takes a village to raise a child. We believe that the quality of each employee at SVDP School deeply enriches and impacts the overall experience of the children here. There is no question that the teacher in the classroom has the strongest academic impact, but the teachers are supported by a deeply invested, mission-oriented team in the front office, on the maintenance staff, in the cafeteria, etc, all of whom are here to serve our children in Catholic education. We are so grateful for your generosity!
Christmas Shoppe – December 12th and 13th – Forms due December 6th
Use the order form to identify family, friends and even pets for which your child will be purchasing a gift. Return the completed form and payment to school. Forms are due Thursday, December 6th. Each class then visits the Shoppe during the school day. The SVdP Elves (Shannon Novak and her trusty team of volunteers) help your child shop for their gifts. The Elf squad will even wrap the gifts! Your child will then bring home their wrapped gifts and they are all ready to go under the tree. Click here for an opportunity to volunteer at this fun event.

Futsal
This year we are able to field two teams each at the Widget, JV, and Varsity levels, with up to eight players per team.
The tournaments run from February 11 – March 1.
Please note the following:
- interested parents put teams of up to 8 players together and submit the roster/coach name to Dave Strawbridge
- once finalized, parents need to register their child-athlete on the CSAL website so official rosters can be submitted for scheduling play
- SVDP is able to host games this year for the first time, but this requires that we find the specialized futsal equipment. If you have connections to borrow the following items, please contact Dave Strawbridge at sports@svdpk8.com.
- two futsal nets
- four size 3 balls
- four size 4 balls
- The athletic fee will be determined after Christmas break, based on the number of participants

December 16 // Jesse Tree Gifts Returned
The Jesse Tree is located in the Church toward the front. If you are able, please take a tag, purchase the item identified on the tag, and return it by December 16th. The Jesse Tree enables us to support families in our wider community who are in need of help at Christmas. This support of our brothers and sisters is truly in the spirit of our patron, St. Vincent de Paul.
December 12th and 19th // Advent Vespers and Adoration
Join us on Wednesday evenings during Advent (Dec. 12th, and 19th) for a short, chanted Vespers service immediately followed by adoration. Vespers is sure to be a nice break from the busyness of the Advent season. Time for December 19th TBA due to Elementary School concert.
December 15-16// Jerusalem Olive Wood Gifts at Mass
After Masses on the weekend of Dec 15-16, many religious articles, crafted from olive wood from Jerusalem, will be available for purchase. These can make wonderful gifts for Christmas, housewarmings, and first sacraments. The display will be in the Garden Room following all Masses. The revenue from these items supports the livelihood of 400 families in Jerusalem.
December 19 // Kindergarten Christmas Play Performance
December 19 // Art Show and Christmas Concert by 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grade
All are welcome to attend the 2018 SVdP Art Show and Christmas Concert, presented by 1st,2nd, and 3rd grade! This theme of year’s music performance is “Jesus Messiah: Festival of Lessons and Carols” and will include songs, scripture, and prayers.
The Art Show will be open in the school from 5:30-6:30 pm. All 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders should be in their classrooms promptly at 6:15 pm to walk together to the church for the 6:30 pm music performance with their class. Parents should plan to hold on to their children’s coats, as the school will not be open following the music performance. (In the case of extremely cold temperatures, students will be able to leave coats in the cafeteria after walking across the street.)
Students who are performing in this year’s Christmas concert should wear their best Christmas/Sunday attire. Children need to be able to walk comfortably in their shoes. No jeans or t-shirts. Girls: Nice dress or skirt and blouse. Please be mindful of skirt length, and please remind your girls how to sit like ladies! Boys: dress pants and dress shirt; tie is encouraged but optional. Suits may be worn.
April 12//Grandparents Day
Due to the full implementation at SVDP Church of the restored order of sacraments, no grade levels are scheduled this year to receive First Holy Communion. In the past, Grandparents’ Day has been scheduled in association with this sacrament. This year Grandparents Day is not associated with other events or activities, but we hope that many grandparents will be able to join us for this special morning.
