SVDP Receives Tech Gifts & Community Giving Opportunity
We have big news coming on Monday! Two donors have made extremely generous year-end gifts in the past two weeks toward our substantial technology needs. We are thrilled and humbled by their generosity. We hope to engage all of you with a challenge campaign – to take the investments we received and multiply the impact with your contribution. With your help, we can make improvements immediately and meet our goals.
We have always taken a thoughtful approach to ensure we use technology to create and not consume. Since our change in technology staffing last February, we have been assessing and projecting our technology needs, which range from small repairs and upgrades, to lowering our iPad ratios. Many of our classrooms have failing or broken technology, causing teachers to use workarounds and preventing them from teaching at their optimal capacity. As you know, the upkeep involved with technology is substantial, and your help will allow us not only to purchase new products and serve more students daily, but also to increase the longevity of the amazing technology we have.
Please look for more information Monday morning, which will explain our current needs, the opportunity to give, and the impact we can all make together.

December 15-16// Jerusalem Olive Wood Gifts at Mass
After Masses on the weekend of Dec 15-16, many religious articles, crafted from olive wood from Jerusalem, will be available for purchase. These can make wonderful gifts for Christmas, housewarmings, and first sacraments. The display will be in the Garden Room following all Masses. The revenue from these items supports the livelihood of 400 families in Jerusalem.
December 19 // Kindergarten Christmas Play Performance
December 19th // Advent Vespers and Adoration
Join us on Wednesday evening during Advent (Dec. 19th) for a short, chanted Vespers service immediately followed by adoration. Vespers is sure to be a nice break from the busyness of the Advent season. Time for December 19th is at 5:00 p.m. due to Elementary School concert.
December 19 // Art Show and Christmas Concert by 1st, 2nd and 3rd Grade
All are welcome to attend the 2018 SVdP Art Show and Christmas Concert, presented by 1st,2nd, and 3rd grades! This theme of year’s music performance is “Jesus Messiah: Festival of Lessons and Carols” and will include songs, scripture, and prayers.
The Art Show will be open in the school from 5:30-6:30 pm. All 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders should be in their classrooms promptly at 6:15 pm to walk together to the church for the 6:30 pm music performance with their class. Parents should plan to hold on to their children’s coats, as the school will not be open following the music performance. (In the case of extremely cold temperatures, students will be able to leave coats in the cafeteria after walking across the street.)
Students who are performing in this year’s Christmas concert should wear their best Christmas/Sunday attire. Children need to be able to walk comfortably in their shoes. No jeans or t-shirts. Girls: Nice dress or skirt and blouse. Please be mindful of skirt length, and please remind your girls how to sit like ladies! Boys: dress pants and dress shirt; tie is encouraged but optional. Suits may be worn.
January 16, 23, and February 6//Book Study – Saving Our Sons
Join Mrs. Cohen for a discussion on the book, “Saving Our Sons” by Michael Gurian at 9 am at the school. Copies can be purchased at the school front office. This is an insightful book about raising boys and provides current research on the differences between boys and girls brains, and how to teach to and parent boys and girls according with their brains in mind.
April 12//Grandparents Day
Due to the full implementation at SVDP Church of the restored order of sacraments, no grade levels are scheduled this year to receive First Holy Communion. In the past, Grandparents’ Day has been scheduled in association with this sacrament. This year Grandparents Day is not associated with other events or activities, but we hope that many grandparents will be able to join us for this special morning.
May 26 and June 13 // Confirmation Dates
Parents of Confirmandi, please see the email from Kelly Archer to select your choice of Confirmation date for 2019.
