Tech Boost Challenge Update – Click on this Video
The Tech Boost Challenge began in mid-December with two gifts designated by the donors for technology needs at SVDP. At the school, we have been in the midst of identifying classroom technology standards including instructional technology and student access to devices. Our SmartBoards are nearing life-end, and those of you who have a fourth grade student know that we’ve been without a functioning SmartBoard for more than two months. If you have a fifth grade student, you know that one of the SmartBoards in 5th grade is failing. We are planning necessary turnovers for technology and pursuing classroom standard capacities to include SmartBoard, teacher laptop and iPad for instruction, document camera, appropriate apps and software dependent up on discipline, and student access to iPads (ratios dependent upon grade level with increased access in upper grades). No grades currently have 1:1 access; we do have 2:1 access in 7/8 grades, as of 2017. Additionally, the majority of our iPads are four and five years old and will soon need to be turned over if we are to maintain our current level of technology. Finally, we have been low-tech focused for the past few years in our teacher professional development, and this has been intentional. However, this past Friday, we had our first technology inservice in over three years, during which a Google Education Consultant presented on Google Classroom capability, etc. As educators, and particularly as Catholic school educators, we continue in the pursuit of the right balance of limiting screen time for many developmental reasons, and for ensuring that our children have sufficient exposure, and mastery where needed, for high school entry. More information on the media literacy curriculum can be found at the Archdiocesan website archden.org.
Thank you to all who have given to help us get to $55,800! We have one more week and the campaign closes on January 31st. You can give here, or donate through the school front office.

7th Grade Musical Request

Meeting Jesus, perhaps for the first time! – Bible Study
As a young teenager, I encountered Jesus by reading one of the New Testament Gospels. My life was dramatically transformed for the better! Would you be interested in reading the Gospel of Luke – one chapter a week – and meeting to discuss what you’ve read? If so, I’m interested in forming a small group of SVDP School parents, who desire to know Jesus better – or to encounter Him for the very first time. No previous reading of the Bible required! We could meet for an hour after you drop off your children or before you pick them up. If you’d like to register your interest or receive more information, please email me at fatherdoug@saintvincents.org.
